Joris van der Ploeg is a Dutch photographer, born in Groningen in 1989. After graduating from the Photo Academy in Amsterdam in 2014, he started to photograph young girls in transition to womanhood. Natural strength and beauty are important characteristics in his work. His innocent and tender models are confronting at the same time, reminding of puberty and slumbering sexuality. The models don’t have make-up and their postures are not staged, resulting in classical and natural compositions. His analogue photographs are digitally altered afterwards, in which the models are duplicated, giving an alienating feeling. He has had various exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad, including International Photo Festival Leiden, UNSEEN Amsterdam, and the Vogue Fashion Night Out exhibition in Milan, Italy. He is one of the New Dutch Talents of 2015 in the book New Dutch Photography Talent 2015.
