Marena Seeling (1953) studied at ArtEZ Arnhem (free art and graphics 1978-1983) Marena Seeling grew up in a dike house overlooking the river Waal and her floodplains. During her youth, the silhouette of the impending industrial development became a self-evident part of the horizon. This image of the industrialized river landscape at her birthplace Weurt, meanders as an archetypal landscape through the paintings of Seeling. At the intersection of figuration and abstraction, Marena Seeling investigates how the experience of space relates to the flat surface of the canvas and the application of paint on it. Marena lives in Nijmegen and her paintings have been exhibited throughout The Netherlands.
