  • About the artwork
A small wall mirror with a giltwood frame decorated with paillettes and green Murano glass. On all corners, the frame is embellished with a small sculpted rocaille with a green glass centre.

Murano, near Venice, was since the middle ages the European centre of decorative glass products. Because the Venetian authorities had forced all glass workshops to move to Murano in 1291, allegedly to control the fire hazard, the concentration of glassblowers on the island stimulated an important and productive industry. The products were sought after throughout Europe.

•“Manner of ….” In their opinion a work in the style of the artist but of a later date

•“After ….” In their opinion a copy (of any date) of a work of the artist

•“Signed…”, “Dated….” or “Inscribed” In their opinion the work has been signed/dated/inscribed by the artist. The addition of a question mark indicates an element of doubt

•"With signature ….”, “With date ….”, “With inscription….” or “Bears signature/date/inscription” in their opinion the signature/ date/ inscription has been added by someone other than the artist
