  • About the artist

Dirk Smorenberg (September 4, 1883 – September 14, 1960) was a Dutch painter who was born in Alkmaar, North Holland. In 1906 he started his career as a professional painter. He is considered one of the few Dutch Art Deco painters. He travelled to St. Ives at the beginning of World War I. He also worked in Switzerland. In 1910 and 1911 he travelled to the United States, where he exhibited, along with Piet Mondriaan, in New York. He eventually settled in Loosdrecht (Holland) where he died in 1960. Among the subjects he painted were water lilies.
