- About the artist
The South Korean sculptor Kim Byung-Kyu (°1978) considers the contemporary city, which has become densely populated due to high industrialization, as a wave or “wave”.
In his view, fast-moving crowds and cars form the identity of a modern city. A city appears to be busy and disorderly, but at the same time it also radiates vitality and charm. In BK Kim's sculptures, the human representation is simplified into its silhouette and the wave-shaped patterns amplify. the sense of speed of the moving characters.
The added colors refer to the light that spreads in our cities. The steel sculptures are combined with marble, where both materials co-exist, such as cold and heat or classic and modern.
The artist embodies the “City Man” in a unique way as a person who walks proudly and chest-forward through the vibrant daily life of a city. It is also a recommendation to all of us to be positive and enterprising in life, without giving in to threats or fears.
