2016: Let’s look back at the highlights of a turbulent year and how they reflected on the art world

January: A good start to the year with the 500th anniversary of one of the most enigmatic and idiosyncratic of the Renaissance masters: Hieronymus Bosch.

February: The founding of Europe’s finest online art platform Gallerease by Frederick Gentis and Cuno van der Feltz.

March: The rediscovered Rembrandt, Allegory of the Sense of Smell, sold for $870,000; 1.000x its high estimate.

April: A replica of Palmyra's 2.000-year-old Arch of Triumph is constructed in Trafalgar Square.

May: The interior designer Kirill Istomin developed a reputation for his singular mix of Old World opulence and contemporary comfort. His combined style reflects the eclectic spirit of the times.

June: Proud to announce that Gallerease.com went live on June 15th.

July: What nobody had foreseen became reality as Brexit caught the world by surprise. The result of this historic vote has left uncertainties about the impact Brexit will have on the British art market.

Augustus: The Yayoi Kusama fever spreads with a five-city tour across North America. Kusama is known for her hugely popular Infinity Mirrored Room.

September: With US elections coming up, Mexican architecture interns envisaged Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Wall’ in pink.

October: The ‘Frans Hals’ portrait of An Unknown Man that sold for a reported $10.8mln has been declared a forgery. 

November: A successful 30th edition of PAN Amsterdam with 19 Gallerease partners represented at the art fair. Furthermore the most important pieces of the David Bowie art Collection has been auctioned at Sotheby’s London.

December: Gallerease is looking back at an amazing and fertile year. With 850 artists, approximately 2,200 artworks, partnerships with almost 60 art dealers, an active high-quality blog, over 2,300 followers on social media and a golden team; we can say Gallerease is doing pretty well.
