Every first Friday in August, Belgian seaside resort Knokke transforms into the Monaco of the North: It’s time for the glamorous Night of the Zoute! On this event, Knokke’s most exclusive shops, fashion boutiques and art galleries extend their opening hours and offer drinks and bites for everyone. Get a refreshing gin and tonic at one of the pop-up bars or check out one of the exclusive fashion shows along the Kustlaan.

Next to fashion, drinks and musical performances, some of the art galleries will be presenting their new and exciting collections. Art gallery Guy Pieters opens with an exhibition on conceptual artist Koen Vanmechelen. Famous for his widely acclaimed project CCP (Cosmopolitan Chicken Project), he will now be showing his newest work Fables and Fantasies from the 5th to the 31st of August. His work focuses on different metaphorical objects, supported by pillows of different shapes and sizes. On his website the artist comments: “Pillows are metaphors for dream and sleep, indispensable processes which allow man to discover new worlds and break boundaries. The objects are multiform dreams that take shape, escaping their womb, to transform and take their place in our worlds whilst in confrontation with one another.”

Strolling along to Galerie Zwart Huis, you will find the new exhibition by the Belgian painter Jan de Vliegher. His new collection consists of colourful, mostly flowery paintings, inspired by 18th century interiors. Arranging colours and shapes according to a strict geometrical system, the themes appear to be continuing even outside of the paintings. His collection will be hosted at Galerie Zwart Huis from the 30th of July until the 25th of September.

A little further on the Zeedijk you will come across the gallery Geukens & De Vil. They will exhibit the work of the American painter David Simpson from the 5th of August until 2nd of September. His solo exhibition is called “True to Light”.

Have a great weekend!
