Born in the French region of Eure-et-Loir, François van den Berghe spent twenty-seven years in Gabon, where he excelled in motorsports and won several championship titles in motorcycle and car racing.

He was also the creator and expedition leader of the famous Challenge d’Équateur, which was declared event of the year in 1986.

During his time in Gabon, Van den Berghe developed a deep fascination with elephants. After his return to France in 1995, he devoted himself entirely to art, with elephants becoming his favorite subject.

His sculptures are characterized by an allegorical narrative, reinforced by a disturbing realism. Each creation reveals an essence that goes beyond mere figurative reproductions, an intimate and indefinable emotion that deeply touches the viewer.

His unique approach and dedication to the theme of elephants have earned him a prominent place in the contemporary art world. His sculptures invite reflection and leave room for personal interpretation, allowing each viewer to create their own story when beholding these majestic creatures.
