About the artist
Frans Manders was born on January 8, 1939, in Helmond. After primary school, he joined the printing house where his father worked, starting in finishing. During this period, he developed his artistic development largely self-taught.
Besides his work at the printing house, Manders devoted himself intensely to his beloved hobby: drawing. Through self-study, including copying works by Rembrandt and George Hendrik Breitner, he built a solid foundation in observation, composition, and technique. These classical influences are reflected in his attention to light, atmosphere, and human presence.
Frans Manders gradually developed his own visual language that blends craftsmanship and personal expression. His work demonstrates a deep respect for his craft and a long, patient development as an artist.
