Georg Braun (also written Brunus or Bruin) was a German top-geographer who lived and worked in Cologne.. He edited between 1572 and 1617 the Civitates orbis terrarum, containing 546 prospects, bird-eyes views and city maps from all over the world. He was the principal editor of the work. The Braun publication - consisting of six volumes - set new standards in cartography for over than 100 years. Primarily European cities are depicted in the publication but Casablanca and Mexico City /Cuzco on one sheet are also included in Volume I.
