Lambertus Zijl was a Dutch sculptor, medallist and decorative artist. From 1881 on, he went to the ‘Kunstnijverheidsschool Quellinus’, Amsterdam and from 1883 on, the Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid (State School of Applied Arts). Lambertus Zijl was a Dutch sculptor, medallist and decorative artist. From 1881 on, he went to the ‘Kunstnijverheidsschool Quellinus’, Amsterdam and from 1883 on, the Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid (State School of Applied Arts). In this period, he also worked as a pupil in the Atelier Van den Bossche en Crevels. With his friend J.P. Mendes da Costa he established the firm ‘Mendes da Costa en Zijl’. He also worked with the architect H.P. Berlage. Zijl has done work such as ornaments commissioned by prominent architects until his death. Today, his works such as the Monument for Queen Emma are to be seen in Amsterdam.
