About the artist
Born in Cannes in 1989, Lis Sam, an emerging artist, showed a pronounced passion for creation from his youth. Self-taught, he explored the world of Street Art by expressing his talents through graffiti, tags and other drawings.
Over time, his work evolved towards a floral aesthetic with the introduction of roses into his artistic universe. Lis Sam quickly distinguished himself by his refined creations, exhibiting himself today in several galleries around the world.
The addition of butterflies to his glass and canvas sculptures marked a turning point in his artistic journey. These butterflies become symbols of his personal "rebirth", illustrating his transition from construction worker to international artist living from his passion. They also embody a message of hope and celebrate freedom.
The artistic shift towards optical art represented a new phase for Lis Sam. By merging elements of Street Art, he created contemporary works, developing his own artistic technique over the years.
Inspired by his past experiences in butterfly greenhouses in the South of France, where he observed these creatures fluttering, Lis Sam imagined colorful portraits. Returning to his studio, he brought these visions to life, framing his works under museum glass, as if captured again under a greenhouse.
Through different plays of light on the canvas and depending on the viewer's distance, each work by Lis Sam becomes a unique experience.
Lis Sam's initial artistic spark dates back to his meeting with Thierry Michelet, also known as Joseph. Self-taught, Lis Sam began his artistic journey with graffiti, tags and drawings. Her work then evolved into a floral aesthetic with the integration of roses, becoming her signature. Butterflies enriched his artistic universe during a visit to a butterfly greenhouse, transforming his imagination into abstract and then realistic portraits, which distinguish him today.
