About the artist
Marly Hendricks is a visual artist based in Amsterdam, who has been active in both free work and illustration since 1989. She has a background in art education and library science, having studied at the Amsterdam University of the Arts and the Frederik Muller Academy, among others.
In her artistic practice, Hendricks searches for the unusual in the everyday—from a view from a car to the light falling on a forest path. Her paintings and drawings balance between recognizability and abstraction, trying to capture the invisible essence of perceived reality. Her landscapes and seascapes, stripped of unnecessary details, evoke a feeling that goes beyond mere representation.
In addition to her free work, Hendricks has carried out commissions for various publishers, design agencies and private clients, including illustrations for children's books and magazines. Her work has been exhibited at various locations, such as the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam and Galerie10 in Utrecht.
Since 2024, Hendricks has been represented by Contempo Gallery in Rotterdam. Her studio is located on the Tweede Jan Steenstraat in Amsterdam, where she continues to explore and depict the subtle nuances of everyday life.
