- About the artworkJapanese tobacco pouch from the Meiji era (1868-1912). It is crafted from the skin of the giant salamander (Andrias japonicus) and is adorned with a large ornamental closure (kanemono) depicting a coiled dragon. The silver-plated chain is held together by a netsuke engraved with a male face. The pouch served as a contemporary fashion accessory.
