- About the artworkAn English antique Victorian display cabinet.
Late 19th century, ca. 1890.
This cabinet is crafted entirely from ebonized (blackened) wood and consists of three detachable sections: an upper, middle, and lower section. The entire piece stands on gracefully curved cabriole legs ending in pad feet, giving it an elegant appearance.
The upper part is a display case with two original glass doors and a striking arched top. The interior is lined with beige-pink satin and features two shelves.
The middle section forms a second display case, also with two original glass doors. The interior includes several shelves, also lined with beige-pink satin. The light background inside the display contrasts nicely with the dark wood of the cabinet.
Below the display case is a single wide drawer with a central keyhole. This section rests on four elegantly curved legs, which elevate the cabinet and give it a light and airy presence.
Dimensions:
Height 200 cm, width 92 cm, depth 47 cm.
Condition:
The bottom drawer does not open and the key is missing. The copper fitting of the lock in the middle is missing. Additionally, the top cabinet has two small chips and a larger chip on the back left corner. The other two keys are there and the locks are working but are quite fragile.
Overall, this refined piece of furniture is very presentable and in good, original antique used condition.
Note: the porcelain on the first photo is not included in the sale.
