Johann Eduard Karsen was born on March 10th in Amsterdam, 1860. He was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, born as the son of Romantic painter Kaspar Karsen. After being apprentinced by his father, he began following classes at the Royal Academy of Amsterdam.
Karsen is known for his moody compositions featuring farmhouses and often a single, solitary figure. He was part of the literary movement 'Tachtigers'. The painter passed away in 1941.
