    Liesbeth Hensels is a Dutch ceramic artist who only found art later in life, but has since found her voice in clay with full dedication. After a career in healthcare, she followed her artistic calling in 2015. What started as a personal quest for expression grew into an oeuvre full of refined, layered ceramic works that feel both earthy and poetic.

    In her studio in The Hague, Hensels works with great sensitivity to material and form. Her pieces are hand-formed, often as unique objects or in small series. Each work is an experiment with texture, structure and glaze. She is inspired by natural forms – from seed pods to cloud structures – but also by abstraction and the play between symmetry and imperfection. Her series Tree Fruits, for example, exudes organic elegance, while Bracelet and Cushion show more powerful, sculptural wall objects.

    Technically, Hensels is adventurous: she works with different types of clay and develops her own glazes, often with surprising effects after firing at 1200 degrees. In her more recent work, such as the Symmetry series, she plays with geometry and the tension between straight lines and erratic clay patterns.

    Hensels regularly exhibits in Dutch galleries, including Galerie Zône in Leiden and Galerie Année, where her work stands out for its tactile character and subdued use of color. Her ceramics invite you to touch them, to be still – a rare quality in a world that often revolves around speed and spectacle.

    With her late, but intensely dedicated entry into the art world, Liesbeth Hensels proves that authenticity, craftsmanship and imagination know no age. Her work grows, develops, surprises – just like herself.
