- About the artist
Born in Paris in 1960, Patrick Rubinstein grew up in a family where art and aesthetics were a natural part of everyday life. Early on, he developed a fascination with the way images can move and transform depending on the viewer's perspective. This curiosity led him to an artistic practice that blurs the lines between painting, sculpture, and optical illusion.
Rubinstein draws inspiration from a wide range of sources: from the energy of street art and the playfulness and irony of pop art to the reflections of contemporary art. In his work, these influences converge in a visual language that feels both contemporary and timeless. His technique is unique: like a goldsmith, he carves, polishes, and assembles materials into sculptural panels that contain two images. Depending on the angle of view, one image appears and the other dissolves, creating a continuous dialogue between past and present, icon and interpretation.
This kinetic approach creates works of art that are not static, but move with the viewer's gaze. The interplay of perspective and transformation allows his work to be rediscovered time and again, as if the artwork shares a secret that reveals itself piece by piece. Rubinstein often works with icons from cultural history—from celebrities to classical art motifs—and places them in a contemporary context where nostalgia and modernity merge.
His art has been exhibited worldwide, from exhibitions in Europe and the United States to private collections drawn by the unique combination of refined craftsmanship and visual surprise. Rubinstein's oeuvre invites interaction: it confronts the viewer with the relativity of perception and reminds us that every image can contain multiple realities.
Today, Patrick Rubinstein is considered an artist with the ability to capture movement and time in solid form. His work, imbued with both technical precision and playful imagination, shows that art is more than an object: it is an experience that is constantly reshaped in the eyes of the beholder.
