  • About the artist
    Joop Hekman was a Dutch sculptor and medallist in Utrecht on 24 March 1921, he died in Utrecht on 28 December 2013. Between 1938 and 1942 Joop Hekman studied at the Academie Kunstoefening in Arnhem. There, he studied sculpture under Jacobs van den Hof and Frans Zwollo junior. He participated in the exhibition Genootschap Kunstliefde with tree other young sculptors, including Loekie Metz, Jan van Luijn and Pieter d’ Hont. One of his famous sculptures is Feest der Muzen (1959), located nearby the Stadsschouwburg (city theatre) in Utrecht. Hekman was known for his use of various materials, including bronze, sandstone, bricks, ceramics and water. Besides his sculptures, he also designed coins and pennies.
