  • About the artist

Louis Boermeester (Amsterdam, 1908 – Ede, 1992) was a Dutch artist, painter and draughtsman, who left behind a modest but consistent oeuvre, characterized by a classical approach to form and a strong connection with the Dutch landscape and cityscape. His work moves between realism and impressionism, with an emphasis on harmony, structure and natural light effects.

Boermeester was trained at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, where he mastered the traditional techniques of drawing and painting. His subjects were varied but recognizable: cityscapes, farms, forest edges, interiors and figures in calm poses. He had an eye for composition and atmosphere, and often managed to capture a certain timelessness in his work.

He spent a significant part of his life in Ede, where the Veluwe landscape continued to inspire him. His paintings do not show dramatic scenes, but rather the beauty of the everyday — a row of pollard willows, an autumn forest, a quiet street. His palette is warm and natural, his touch controlled but lively.

Boermeester exhibited regularly, especially in regional galleries and art circles, and was appreciated by collectors who appreciated his craftsmanship and sense of atmosphere. Although he did not achieve great national fame, he remained true to his style and vision throughout his life, which makes him an authentic and dedicated artist.

Louis Boermeester leaves behind an honest and tranquil oeuvre that reflects the Dutch landscape and life in its most recognizable form — with craftsmanship, attention and love for the ordinary that becomes special precisely because of it.
