  • About the artist

Jaap Hiddink (1910–2000) was a Dutch painter who lived and worked his entire life in the artists' village of Nunspeet. As one of the most famous representatives of the Veluwe painting tradition, he devoted himself to capturing nature, village life, and the characteristic landscape of the Veluwe.

Hiddink developed a recognizable Impressionist style in which light, atmosphere, and color take center stage. His loose brushwork and sensitivity to the changing seasons gave his landscapes, heathlands, forests, farmhouses, and rural scenes a lively and timeless appearance. In addition to his landscapes, he also painted still lifes, flowers, and other subjects, testifying to the great versatility of his oeuvre.

During his long career, Hiddink built up an impressive and extensive body of work. His work is appreciated for its authentic depiction of Veluwe nature and its warm, accessible painting style, with which he forms an important chapter within the Dutch Impressionist tradition of the twentieth century. Today, his paintings are found in numerous private collections and remain beloved by collectors for their craftsmanship, atmospheric character, and enduring connection to the Veluwe landscape.
