  Victor Simonin was een Belgisch neo-realistisch kunstschilder. Hij volgde tegelijk de avondlessen aan de Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Brussel en de vioolklas aan het Conservatorium. Een ongeluk had een handicap aan zijn linkerhand tot gevolg waarna hij zich volledig op de schilderkunst toe. Simonin behoorde tot de ‘Sillonisten’, een groep jonge Belgische schilders, leerlingen van de academie in Brussel, die rond 1900 het impressionisme herontdekten. De weergave van het licht in rijke kleuren, spontane verfstreken en een overdadige verfopbreng kenmerkten het werk van deze schilders.
  Het aangeboden werk is daar een duidelijk voorbeeld van en draagt overtuigend het ‘handschrift’ van zijn maker Victor Simon.

  Victor Simonin was a Belgian neo-realistic painter. He also attended evening classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and the violin class at the Conservatory. An accident resulted in a handicap on his left, after which he devoted himself entirely to painting. Simonin was one of the “Sillonists”, a group of young Belgian painters, students of the academy in Brussels, who rediscovered Impressionism around 1900. The representation of the light in rich colors, spontaneous brushstrokes and an excessive application of paint characterized the work of these painters. The work on offer is a clear example of this and convincingly bears the ‘handwriting’ of its maker Victor Simon.

  Victor Simonin (1877-1946) è stato un pittore neorealista belga, nato a Bruxelles. Frequentò i corsi serali all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Bruxelles e contemporaneamente studiò violino al Conservatorio. Dopo un incidente che gli ha lasciato la mano sinistra disabile, ha deciso di dedicarsi interamente alla pittura.

  Simonin fu un membro di spicco dell'associazione artistica "Le Sillon", un gruppo di giovani pittori belgi che riscoprì l'impressionismo intorno al 1900. La sua opera è composta principalmente da nature morte e paesaggi, e il suo stile pittorico potente e ampio ricorda quello di Guillaume Vogels.

  Nel 1941 ricevette il prestigioso Premio A. Oleffe, in riconoscimento del suo contributo alla pittura belga. Postume, le sue opere furono esposte al Musée d'Ixelles nel 1977 e al Centre d'Art de Rouge-Cloître nel 1997, a testimonianza di un apprezzamento duraturo per la sua eredità artistica.

  I dipinti di Simonin continuano a essere molto apprezzati e vengono regolarmente offerti alle aste, dove sono ricercati dai collezionisti per la loro resa vivida e la loro abilità tecnica.
