In this pastel work, tellingly titled Rembrandt indachtig (In Rembrandt’s Spirit), Onno Boerwinkel creates an almost tangible encounter with the Dutch master. Onno Boerwinkel è un artista olandese noto per le sue opere tranquille e stratificate, incentrate sulla luce mediterranea e sulla bellezza quotidiana dell'Europa meridionale. Fin da giovane, Boerwinkel sviluppò una passione per il disegno, alimentata ulteriormente dalle estati trascorse in Italia.
Boerwinkel studiò presso la prestigiosa Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten di Amsterdam, laureandosi nel 1975. Nei suoi primi anni, lavorò principalmente con colori a olio di grande formato, ma dalla fine degli anni '80 in poi, trovò nel pastello il suo vero mezzo di espressione.
Boerwinkel costruisce le sue immagini a strati di pastello, che poi fissa. L'artista graffia, lucida e pulisce le sue opere per rivelare i colori sottostanti, creando una profondità e una vivacità straordinarie.
