    Signed and dated 1922 l.l. Biedermeier interior Scheffer was born in Vienna in 1859. He was trained by the painters Griepenkerl, Wurzinger, Leopold Müller and Ferdinand Keller at The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and Karlsruhe. His works are among others to be found in the collection of the Municipal Museum in Vienna. From 1905 to 1918, he exhibited regularly at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. His most popular paintings were on the theme, "Young Woman in a Biedermeier Interior", of which there are numerous variations. He was a board member of the Albrecht Dürer Association and had his own art school.

    Robert Scheffer (Vienna, 6 maggio 1859 – Vienna, 27 ottobre 1934) è stato un pittore austriaco. Si è specializzato in paesaggi, scene di genere e ritratti. Era anche un collezionista d'arte e gestiva una scuola d'arte privata.

    Studiò dal 1879 al 1881 all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna con Christian Griepenkerl, Carl Wurzinger e Leopold Carl Müller. Nel 1886 aveva completato i suoi studi presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Karlsruhe, nelle masterclass di Ferdinand Keller.

    Dal 1905 al 1918 espone regolarmente alla Künstlerhaus di Vienna. I suoi dipinti più popolari erano sul tema "Giovane donna in un interno Biedermeier", di cui esistono numerose varianti.

    È stato membro del consiglio dell'Associazione Albrecht Dürer; da cui ha ricevuto la medaglia d'argento degli Albrecht Dürer Bunds nel 1930. Ha ricevuto anche la medaglia d'argento per i servizi alla Repubblica d'Austria [ de ] nel 1929.

    Nel 1891 aprì una scuola d'arte privata; insieme ad August Schubert (1844-?), che insegnava disegno, e Carl Haunold [de], che insegnava pittura. Molti artisti famosi iniziarono come suoi studenti, tra cui John Quincy Adams, Robin Christian Andersen [de], Anton Faistauer, Maria Grengg [de], Josef Kalous (1887-1974), Anton Peschka, Gustav Schütt (1890-1968) e Fritz Zerritsch [de]. Dopo la sua morte, la scuola fu gestita fino al 1949 da sua figlia, Gret Kalous, con il nome di "Schule für künstlerisches Modezeichnen" (Scuola per il disegno artistico di moda).
