Over de kunstenaar

Biró Mihály (1886 - 1948) was a Hungarian artist who was born in 1886, he died in 1948. He studied under Antal Lorántfi and István at the School of Applied Arts from 1903 to 1907. From 1908 onwards he was educated in Berlin, Paris and London on a Ministerial scholarship. He was honoured with the first prize in the poster competition of the journal The Studio. After returning to England he worked as a sculptor and made poster designs. He had success with a poster for the newspaper Népszava. He also designed costumes and stage sets for the Új Színház [New Theatre]. After the fall of the Hungarian Soviet Republic, he moved to Vienna where he published his Horthy-album. Afterwards, he settled in Berlin but eventually fled to Vienna due to the growing threat of Nazism. From 1938 onwards he settled in Paris, moving back to Hungary in 1947.
