Tilmann Meyer-Fayer lives and works in the Netherlands, where he graduated in 2000 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and Sandberg Institute in 2004. In his work he focuses on urban planning and the failure of industrial processes. With his ceramic sculptures he is replicating contemporary constructions from our highly developed civilization and anticipates their decay.
In order to acchieve this goal he uses the fault in the ceramic production, like using material that is too soft for the weight it has to carry, unclean tools, various clay types mixed together that usually don't mix due to different shrinkage and burning temperature. Even the indifference of the maker himself leads to this esthetics of failure.
At the European Ceramic Workcenter EKWC in Den Bosch (NL) he staged a whole production chain for a Soviet Microdistrict executed by workers. And he is performing experiments in which he tries to determine how to freeze the moment of collapse in ceramic sculptures.
