  • Over kunstenaar
Casper Verborg (1981) obtained his Bachelor's degree in Arts and Design in 2003 at ArtEZ Art Academy in Arnhem, and studied for his Master's degree in painting at the KASK School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium, where he graduated in 2013. Casper investigates the possibility and impossibility of telling stories through paintings. At first sight it is a unity of composition, colour and brilliant brushwork, but on further viewing you get the feeling that the story you entered is not correct. And you look again and come to another story. His paintings are theatre plays, in which Casper is the director and the visitor a player in his own story. The work of Verborg is in several private collections. He lives in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

About his artworks he remarks: “I am fascinated by the ambiguity of expressions and body language. That is why the face plays an important role in my work; with the expressions of the face we either show or try to hide what we think or feel. It's an interaction between inner feelings and outward appearance. Through the expression of the portrait I try to evoke a multiplicity of meanings, judgements, and empathy from the viewer. While painting, I’m searching for the moment where material, representation and composition coincide. I aim to convey the point where attraction and alienation meet.”
