- Sur l'oeuvre d'artAccording to the inscription on the silver triangular blade this silver trowel was given to Goris Cruys, on the occasion of laying the first brick of brewery “De Klok” in IJsselstein on 29 July 1758. In Dutch it reads:
"Goris Cruys heeft hier mede de eerste Steen gelegd aan de Brouwerij de Klok in IJsselstijn den 29ste July 1758".
Goris Cruys was only four years old at that time. He was the nephew of burgomaster and brewer Goris ’t Hoen, who had commissioned an extension to his brewery with a so-called clock gable. The building still exists in IJsselstein, located at Benschopperstraat at the corner of the St. Nicolaasstraat.
