About the artist
Cornelis Mahu was a Flemish painter of still lifes, genre paintings and seascapes. Mahu was born in Antwerp, 1613. There exists little information about his earlier life, although we know he married to Brigitta Wolfvoet, daughter of painter/art dealer Victor Wolfvoet I in 1633. Mahu died in Antwerp in 1689.
Through his work we can se Mahu was a versatile painter practicing in various genres. He showed a high level of craftsmanship in composition as well.
