About the artist
Jaap Min was an expressionist painter from The Netherlands. Min was born and raised in Bergen, Holland. He applied to the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam in 1938, because of the encouragement of painter Matthieu Wiegman.
A year later he began travelling outside Holland and ended up in cities such as Padua and Verona. During his residence there, he became more familiar with Italian artists such as Massimo Campigli and Giotto. This occurence has kept to be of great influence throughout the working life of Jaap Min.
A lot of religious work is known of his hand, because of his own spiritual background and an influence of Campendonk. Stained glass windows and depictions of the stations of the cross are examples of this.
