About the artist
Mr Doodle, pseudonym of Sam Cox (Kent, 1994) is an English artist known for his doodles.
Cox was busy drawing simple drawings called 'doodles' from an early age.
Cox studied illustration in Bristol at the University of the West of England. He was given the nickname 'Mr Doodle' by a teacher.
His work is known for his figures with thick lines that he describes as 'grafitti spaghetti' and "OCD- Obsessive Compulsive Drawing". His work arises spontaneously and is improvised on the spot.
Characteristic of his style are the busy, random patterns and compositions. Cox gets inspiration for his work from everyday things such as cartoons and computer games.
His work has been exhibited in London and Seoul, among others. Cox has also collaborated with brands such as MTV, Adidas, Puma and Fendi.
Cox has completely covered his house in Kent, called 'Doodleland', with doodles. He worked on this artwork between September 2020 and September 2022. The artist says he used 900 liters of white paint, 401 cans of black spray paint, 286 bottles of black ink and 2,296 ink cartridges for his markers.
In 2019, his work Spring was sold in Tokyo for just under one million dollars.
