About the artist
Nour Ballouk is a Lebanese artist who was born in Lebanon in 1984. Between 2002 and 2006 she studied fine art at the Lebanese University in Beirut. Ballouk blends early and mid 20th century photographs of Orientalist dancers with contemporary images of destruction, caused by the ongoing wars in Gaza, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. Light passes through Ballouk’s collages, becoming one of the essential materials of the work. A recent work Arab Spring Dance (2014-2015) consists of a series of digital collages printed on plexiglass.
