“Valk” is a remarkable piece of artistry, encapsulating the grace and prowess of the falcon, one of nature’s most esteemed birds of prey. This sculpture, made from bronze, features a falcon poised majestically on a falconer’s leather glove, symbolizing the timeless bond between falconer and bird.
Each “Valk” sculpture is handcrafted, ensuring meticulous attention to detail. The bronze falcon is sculpted to convey lifelike attributes—its sharp eyes, intricate feather patterns, and powerful stance. The accompanying leather glove is equally detailed, providing a tactile contrast to the metallic sheen of the falcon.
The use of bronze for the falcon imparts a sense of durability and permanence, while the leather glove adds authenticity and a touch of the natural world. The combination of these materials creates a harmonious balance, enhancing the visual and emotional impact of the piece.
“Valk” is not just a sculpture but a limited edition work of art, with only 12 pieces available worldwide. This exclusivity elevates its status, making it a prized possession for collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Each piece is a testament to the artist’s dedication and skill, ensuring that every “Valk” is a unique treasure.
Owning “Valk” means having a piece of art that celebrates the noble heritage of falconry and the untamed spirit of the falcon. It is a timeless symbol of mastery, freedom, and the enduring connection between human and nature. This limited edition sculpture will undoubtedly inspire awe and admiration for generations to come. - About the artist
Bart Somers (born 1958) is a Dutch self-taught sculptor known for his modern and stylized sculptures, often made from materials such as corten steel and stainless steel.
His work is characterized by a sleek formal language in which abstraction and figuration meet. Through the rust color of corten steel and the shine of stainless steel, he plays with light, space and texture.
His sculptures vary from stylized animals to abstract shapes and have a strong visual impact through their simplicity and balance.
Somers is a master in working with steel, which he describes as a material that he "sculpts with a forging hammer" and "paints with a cutting torch".
This results in open, dynamic sculptures that enter into a dialogue with their surroundings. His works can be seen worldwide in public spaces, museums and private collections, with a strong representation in the Netherlands.
