- Sobre la obra de arteA very charming portrait depicting the great Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn. The painter of this work demonstrates great skill and ability to express the emotion of the sitter. This work is done in the grisaille style, a style mastered by Adriaen van de Venne in the 17th century. Our work is based on an etching of Rembrandt laughing. Our artist has managed to show a great difference in texture in grisaille, this is the work of someone very talented. This so-called "tronie" has recently been attributed to Adriaen van de Venne and bears an illegible signature to the left of the sitter.
Provenance:
Dublin: James A. Murnagham
Baltimore: Hon. Francis D. Murnagham Jr.
