- Über KunstwerkEarly 20th century sterling silver cigarette box manufactured by David Andersen, Norway. The box has an silver and gilded insert to separate the content. The lid of the box is very nicely decorated in black, red and blue with bell-shaped flowers and leaves. The center of the lid has a symmetrical decoration in gold. The box is completely gilded on the inside, of which the gilding is slightly jaded at the bottom edge.
The box and the insert are marked with:

David Andersen (25. Mai 1843 – 3. August 1901) war ein norwegischer Goldschmied.
Er wurde in Østre Toten (in Innlandet) als Sohn von Anders Svendsen und Anne Margrethe Gulbrandsdatter geboren und war der Vater des Goldschmieds Arthur David-Andersen.
Ab 1859 war er beim Juwelier Jacob Tostrup in Christiania (heute Oslo) in der Lehre. Er verbrachte mehrere Auslandsaufenthalte in Berlin, Stockholm, Paris und London. Während seines Aufenthalts in London importierte er auch norwegische Filigranarbeiten nach Großbritannien.
Er gründete 1876 seine eigene Goldschmiedewerkstatt in Christiania, die schließlich zu einem führenden Unternehmen in der Goldschmiedeindustrie in Norwegen wurde.
Ein bedeutender Teil seiner filigranen Arbeiten wurde nach Großbritannien exportiert. Ab 1899 beschäftigte seine Firma 92 Männer und 29 Frauen.
