- Sur l'oeuvre d'artEarly 20th century sterling silver cigarette box manufactured by David Andersen, Norway. The box has an silver and gilded insert to separate the content. The lid of the box is very nicely decorated in black, red and blue with bell-shaped flowers and leaves. The center of the lid has a symmetrical decoration in gold. The box is completely gilded on the inside, of which the gilding is slightly jaded at the bottom edge.
The box and the insert are marked with:
– 925 / Sterling silver
– S / Used for enamelled articles for export

David Andersen (25 mai 1843 - 3 août 1901) était un orfèvre norvégien.
Il est né à Østre Toten (dans l'Innlandet) d'Anders Svendsen et d'Anne Margrethe Gulbrandsdatter, et était le père de l'orfèvre Arthur David-Andersen.
À partir de 1859, il était en apprentissage chez le bijoutier Jacob Tostrup à Christiania (aujourd'hui Oslo). Il a passé plusieurs séjours à l'étranger, à Berlin, Stockholm, Paris et Londres. Pendant son séjour à Londres, il a également importé des œuvres norvégiennes en filigrane au Royaume-Uni.
Il a créé son propre atelier d'orfèvrerie à Christiania en 1876, qui est finalement devenu une entreprise leader dans l'industrie de l'orfèvrerie en Norvège.
Une partie importante de ses œuvres en filigrane a été exportée en Grande-Bretagne. En 1899, son entreprise employait 92 hommes et 29 femmes.
