  Early 20th century sterling silver cigarette box manufactured by David Andersen, Norway. The box has an silver and gilded insert to separate the content. The lid of the box is very nicely decorated in black, red and blue with bell-shaped flowers and leaves. The center of the lid has a symmetrical decoration in gold. The box is completely gilded on the inside, of which the gilding is slightly jaded at the bottom edge.

  David Andersen (25 maggio 1843 – 3 agosto 1901) è stato un orafo norvegese.

  Nacque a Østre Toten (in Innlandet) da Anders Svendsen e Anne Margrethe Gulbrandsdatter, ed era il padre dell'orefice Arthur David-Andersen.

  Dal 1859 fu apprendista presso il gioielliere Jacob Tostrup a Christiania (oggi chiamata Oslo). Ha trascorso diversi periodi all'estero, a Berlino, Stoccolma, Parigi e Londra. Durante il suo soggiorno a Londra ha anche importato nel Regno Unito opere in filigrana norvegese.

  Nel 1876 aprì il suo laboratorio orafo a Christiania, che alla fine divenne un'azienda leader nel settore orafo in Norvegia.

  Una parte significativa delle sue opere in filigrana fu esportata in Gran Bretagna. Nel 1899 la sua azienda impiegava 92 uomini e 29 donne.
