  • About the artwork
Maria Paola Coda was born in 1981 in Italy, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, and since 2006 lives and works in Gerona (Spain). In 2004 she was awarded a special mention at the International Contest of Contemporary Art in Postiniano (Italy), that same year she began exhibiting her art in her native country. Coda’s work has since been shown in Gerona, New York, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Ourense and Florence.
Coda’s acrylic abstract paintings are layer upon layer of colour and brushstrokes to an egg-shell effect. But what seem to be soft and delicate etchings are in actual fact much more than that. They are seeped in emotion, in mental states, moods, thoughts and experiences. With each stroke, each colour, each line, there is a new message of the human condition imbued in Coda’s work where she examines and portrays identity, time and space.
There is poetry to be found on her canvases where shades and shapes vibrate together to awaken sensibility and connections.
Her work is a permanent search into the beauty that hides in the state of one’s mind.
Since graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Coda who resides in Gerona (Spain) has exhibited widely to much acclaim.
  • About the artist

Coda is Born in 1981 in Italy, she graduates in the Academy of Fine Arts of the city of Florence and since 2006 lives and works in Girona.

Her personal exhibitions begin in the year 2004 in her native country, Italy. Since then, her art works have been exhibited in London, New York, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Toulouse, Florence, Girona and Ourense.

Her creative process dwells in a permanent search of the beauty hiding in the state of mind. Thus, the message and the shape cannot be mere figurations of the human condition.

Maria Paola’s matter painting is born as a series of respectful monuments to beauty as well as a channel of the poetical emotions of the mutation. Maria Paola Coda’s painting is generous. This implies a formal preoccupation as well as a matter one. We are layers of time, superpositions of mental states, mood cocktails, thought and experience strata, expression and communication enjambments.

Coda, by means of her paintings, postulates the metaphysics of the means and, at the same time, she dares posing questions with the appearances as a starting point.
