This is a typical example of an interior scene from Laren with a woman doing needlework.

The painting is signed and dated on the bottom left.

Sur l'artiste
Gijsbertus Jan Sijthoff est né à Delft le 6 août 1867 et décédé à Laren (NH) le 14 octobre 1949.
Il a été élève de l'Académie BK de La Haye, puis de BJ Blommers. Sijthoff a peint, aquarellé, dessiné et lithographié des portraits, des intérieurs et des extérieurs, des paysages urbains et des paysages.
Il a vécu et travaillé à Scheveningen, Rijswijk, Delft, Heeze, Anvers et Bruges et enfin à Laren (NH).
Il était membre de « St.Lucas » et « Pulchri », du Dutch Art Circle et de l'association BK « Laren-Blaricum ».
Il a enseigné à son épouse Johanna Bastiana van Rijswijk, AFAM Hiel et Maria Ch. J. Sterre de Jong.
Il vivait à Laren au Tafelbergweg numéro 8 dans la villa « Alberta ». (Carnet d'adresses : Laren-Blaricum1938)
