Antique Iberian earrings in 18K yellow gold, crafted around 1750 in the Baroque style. With their long, articulated design and richly curved forms, they embody the exuberance and symmetry typical of the period. Each is set with a suite of glowinggarnets, their deep red tones adding warmth and drama. Owing to the delicacy of their goldwork, many such earrings have not survived, making this pair a rare presence on today’s market and a fine testament to Iberian craftsmanship.

Condition not perfect condition. The reverse of each earring shows a significant loss of gold at the lower sections, exposing the original lacquer filling. This is the most noticeable wear, yet from the front the earrings remain acceptable. Country of origin Although it carries no legible control marks, we believe this piece to be of Spanish or Portuguese origin, as the design is typical of 18th-century Iberian earrings.

Style specifics Baroque is a style in art and decoration that developed shortly before 1600 and remained current in Europe until the emergence of the Rococo style c.1730. It was started in Italy, and spread to Germany, Austria, the Low Countries, and Spain andPortugal, with only a somewhat severely classical version being popular in France under Louis XIV. The style was a development of the Renaissance style and is characterized by lively, curved, and exuberant forms, by vigorous movement, and by richornament, based on classical sources, being symmetrical as distinguished from the asymmetry of the following Rococo style.

Ook kunt u de volgende beschrijving vinden:
•"Toegeschreven aan …." waarschijnlijk een werk van de kunstenaar maar niet zeker of gedeeltelijk
•“Atelier van ….” of werkplaats van” een werk uitgevoerd in het atelier of atelier van de kunstenaar, eventueel onder zijn toezicht
