Romy van Rijckevorsel schildert op een eclectische wijze. In haar werk zie je veel verwijzingen naar klassieke kunstenaars. (bijvoorbeeld Gustav Klimt, decoratieve achtergronden, maar ook Egon Schiele). Het is ook eclectisch vanwege de verschillende stijlen: tekenen, graffiti, schilderen engrafische elementen. Al deze elementen worden zeer succesvol gecombineerd tot een organisch geheel waarin ook een eigen handschrift op de loer ligt. Dat is heel slim, want de combinatie van referenties en stijlen kan ook heel snel fout gaan.
In Romy’s werk, echter, stopt zij op precies het juiste moment. De schilderijen zijn zeer postmodern in de zin van "alles is mogelijk" en toch is het is helemaal niet onrustig. Aan de ene kant zijn de werken zeer decoratief en aan de andere kant ook hard en bijna provocerend en vulgair. Toch zijn ze in evenwicht, deels te wijten aan de sterke samenstelling.
