Jean-Gabriel Domergue nasce il 4 marzo 1889 a Bordeaux, in Francia. Era un pittore francese specializzato in ritratti di donne parigine. Ha studiato all'École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Nel 1911 vinse il Prix de Rome. Ha anche disegnato abiti per il couturier Paul Poiret. Dal 1955 al 1962 è stato il curatore del Musée Jacquemart-André, organizzando mostre delle opere di Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Goya e altri. Domergue fu nominato Cavaliere della Légion d'honneur. Morì il 16 novembre 1962 su un marciapiede di Parigi.
