• Over kunstwerk
  Recently, Ricardo Jarama has started the series La Super Realidad. Here, he further explores the robotisation of humans. The style is even more graphic than in the previous series. Several drawings are black and white, which is new in the artist’s work, and tend towards the Japanese manga and anime style. It is a series of works that examine the unsettling universe of Virtual Reality, with a new dynamic character and in a more defined way. About this, Jarama says: “La Super Realidad emerged from the themes of the previous series Futuro. In a world that is dominated by technology, a certain group within those themes went through a paradigm shift and sought shelter in the world of Virtual Reality. A world that I design through my imagination, with different signs, characters and situations; it’s a dynamic universe, in which images and stories intertwine and are still in progress. Within the series Futuro, the image Atrapas Vidas (Life Catchers) is particularly striking. This is the image I refer to when I show that the character is captured, changes their reality, and is caught up/immersed in it by means of the menu of the machine/the computer, in the form of glasses, and thus creates a physical and functional connection between two independent systems. This marks the beginning of a new adventure, a new subject matter in an area of technology that is rapidly expanding in society.”

  Ricardo Jarama (geboren in 1974 in Lima) is een hedendaagse Peruaanse kunstenaar, woonachtig in Athene, wiens multidisciplinaire praktijk zich uitstrekt over beeldhouwkunst, tekenen en schilderen. Zijn werk kenmerkt zich door een opvallende fusie van surrealistische gevoeligheden en materiaalexperimenten.

  Jarama's beeldhouwwerk begint vaak met abstracte vormen, gehouwen uit steen, die geleidelijk evolueren naar meer symbolische en verhalende composities. Deze werken bevatten vaak gemengde technieken, waardoor hij ruwe, natuurlijke materialen kan combineren met geconstrueerde elementen. Het resultaat is een oeuvre dat zich beweegt tussen het organische en het conceptuele, en de kijker uitnodigt om thema's als transformatie, geheugen en het onderbewustzijn te verkennen.

  Naast zijn beeldhouwwerk weerspiegelen Jarama's tekeningen en schilderijen soortgelijke thema's. Zijn tweedimensionale werken bevatten vaak dromerige beelden en vloeiende, ambigue vormen, wat de surrealistische ondertoon in zijn werk versterkt. In al zijn mediums weerspiegelt zijn werk een voortdurende dialoog tussen materiaal, vorm en betekenis, waarmee hij zich positioneert binnen een hedendaagse traditie van kunstenaars die abstractie en symbolisme met elkaar verbinden.
