„Schwere Arbeit - Herrgott, muß man viele Likörbonbons lutschen, wenn man einen Schwips davon bekommen will“. [Heavy work - Good Lord, you have to eat a lot of chocolates with liqueur before you get a buzz.] Gouache by Ferdinand Götz (1874 - 1936), signed and dated 1914 lower left. Design for a cartoon in Meggendorfer Blätter of 28 October 1915. Size: 36 x 27 cm. The “Meggendorfer Blätter – Zeitschrift für Humor und Kunst”, published in Munich between 1888 and 1944, was a statirical weekly magazine of a high artistic level founded by artist Lothar Meggendorf. The magazine was full of illustrated jokes, short stories, poems, caricatures and cartoons made by a large number of well-known and less well-known artists. The humor of the Meggendorfer Blätter, in contrast to a magazine such as Simplicissimus, which appeared in the same period, was less political and is therefore understandable and funny still today. Price: Euro 1.250,- (incl. frame)
