  Joost Baljeu geometric plexiglass sculpture — “Synthetic Construction F6,” design 1967, produced as Multiple Series I in 1975, a rare editioned constructivist work (no. 11/25).
  
  This refined geometric sculpture (55 × 16 × 16 cm) is part of Joost Baljeu’s important Synthetic Constructions, a series in which he translated the principles of postwar Constructivism into spatial, modular forms using industrial materials. Synthetic Construction F6 is built from interlocking planes of translucent and opaque plexiglass, creating shifting light effects and a dynamic vertical rhythm. The work exemplifies Baljeu’s exploration of colourless architecture in space, where the sculpture’s form changes subtly as the viewer moves around it. Produced in 1975 as part of Multiple Series I, this piece is numbered 11/25 and bears the artist’s signature underneath, accompanied by the original label.
  
  Condition is excellent, with clean surfaces and only minimal age-appropriate traces consistent with plexiglass works from the period. The structure is stable, edges remain crisp, and the base is original.

  Joost Baljeu (Middelburg, 1 November 1925 – Amsterdam, 1 July 1991) was a toonaangevende Nederlandse kunstenaar, bekend om zijn constructivistische sculpturen en geometrisch-abstracte schilderkunst. Baljeu maakte deel uit van de internationale beweging die streefde naar een synthese van kunst en architectuur, geïnspireerd door De Stijl en de idealen van het modernisme. Zijn werk verkent ruimtelijke constructie, kleur en vorm, met een nadruk op modulair opgebouwde structuren die de grens tussen kunstobject en architectonisch element doorbreken.

  Vanaf de jaren 1950 ontwikkelde Baljeu zijn iconische ruimtelijke constructies van staal en gekleurde panelen, waarin hij een visuele spanning creëerde tussen open en gesloten volumes. Zijn kunst kenmerkt zich door ritmische lijnen, strakke geometrieën en heldere kleurcontrasten, waarmee hij de kijker uitnodigt het beeld dynamisch te ervaren in de ruimte.

  Baljeu was internationaal actief als kunstenaar, schrijver en docent. Hij was hoogleraar aan de Rijksakademie in Amsterdam en publiceerde invloedrijke kunsthistorische en theoretische teksten over constructivisme en De Stijl. Zijn werken bevinden zich in vooraanstaande museale collecties, waaronder het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Kröller-Müller Museum, en diverse internationale kunstinstellingen. Grote sculpturen van Baljeu zijn vandaag de dag nog te zien in de openbare ruimte in Nederland en daarbuiten.

  Met zijn grensverleggende benadering van abstracte kunst en zijn visie op kunst in de gebouwde omgeving heeft Joost Baljeu blijvende invloed gehad op generaties kunstenaars en ontwerpers.
