    Attributed to Matthijs Horris (Lobberich 1735-1809 the Hague)

    Matthijs Horrix is the most famous cabinetmaker of The Hague in the 18th century. He became to The Hague around 1761 and became a member of the cabinetmakers guild of that city in 1764. He had his workshop at the Spuistraat. From 1770 onwards Horrix developed in size and versatility. He could manufacture any kind of furniture needed to decorate an entire house. This was widely appreciated, especially by the Stadholders Court and its entourage, because he worked “to the most fashionable taste of Paris”.

    Matthijs Horrix é o marceneiro mais famoso de Haia no século XVIII. Chegou a Haia por volta de 1761 e tornou-se membro da guilda dos marceneiros daquela cidade em 1764. Ele tinha sua oficina na Spuistraat. De 1770 em diante, Horrix desenvolveu-se em tamanho e versatilidade. Ele poderia fabricar qualquer tipo de mobiliário necessário para decorar uma casa inteira. Isso foi amplamente apreciado, especialmente pelo Tribunal de Stadholders e sua comitiva, porque ele trabalhou “ao gosto mais elegante de Paris”.
