Albertus Charles Andre Tanama was born in Yogyakarta on March 28th, 1982. He is the second child from
four children. Born in a Chiwa (Chinesse and Javanese) family. His father is Tan Kian Bie (Albert Ryanto) and
his mother is Caecilia Ruwini.
Throughout college years, Andre received Best Printmaking Award for 3 period (2002, 2003, and 2005). In
2003 he also received Gudang Garam Scholarship (via Lippo Bank) because he passed the selection in KriaISI
Exhibition a National Museum Jakarta. Also in 2003, five of his printmaking artworks became finalists in the
First Indonesia Printmaking Triennial. He achieved so many things and in September 2006 he is the first
winner of “Trienal Seni Grafis Indonesia II 2006” (The Second Indonesia Printmaking Triennial) a prestigious
national printmaking competition. In 2007 he was awarded an Academic Art award for the category Emerging
artist in Printmaking. This competition was organized by Jogja Gallery and Indonesia Institute of the Arts
Yogyakarta.
Beside his teaching activity in the university and art activities outside the university, Andre was also asked to
teach painting lesson at several reputable kindergarten in Yogyakarta (Yogya Kids Kindergarten, Bambini
Montessory Kindergarten, and Olifant Preschool). Andre was also an illustrator for “Suramnya Bayang-
bayang” short story by S. H. Mintardja on Kedaulatan Rakyat daily (newspaper).
In 2005, Andre graduated cum laude from ISI Yogyakarta. As a holder of Bachelor of Art degree, he became a
young lecturer in Faculty of Fine Art, Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2006. “Before becoming a
lecturer I used to teach in Kindergarten while also working at Calista Digital Photo Studio as Graphic Designer
in Printing Division. At home I also took orders such as pencil drawing portrait or caricature. The buyers
usually were my friends.”

Albertus Charles Andre Tanama, Andre Tanama, nascido em 1982 em Yogyakarta, Indonésia, é um artista versátil e professor no Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. Obteve o seu Sarjana Seni com cum laude no ISI Yogyakarta em 2005 e completou o seu Magister Seni em 2010, também com cum laude.
Na sua carreira artística, Tanama recebeu vários prémios. Em 2006, ganhou a segunda Trienal Seni Grafis Indonesia no Bentara Budaya Jakarta e foi reconhecido como um dos 40 melhores jovens artistas da Indonésia pela Galeria Jogja.
Em 2007, recebeu o Prémio Académico de Arte I para gravura da FSR ISI Yogyakarta e uma bolsa para criação em gravura do Ministério da Educação Nacional.
O trabalho de Tanama caracteriza-se por três características únicas:
Wayang Monyong, Gwen Silent e Agathos. Wayang Monyong é uma deformação da cabeça humana, resultante de preocupações pessoais e quotidianas.Gwen Silent, uma menina de 4 a 5 anos de olhos fechados e sem boca, simboliza a discrepância entre a perceção e a realidade.
Agathos atua como uma contraparte de Gwen Silent, semelhante ao princípio yin-yang, e representa o equilíbrio entre o mundo interior e exterior.
O seu trabalho foi exibido nacional e internacionalmente, com exposições individuais incluindo “The Tales of Gwen Silent” no Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta e Jacarta, e “Agathos” na Langgeng Gallery, Magelang. Participou também em exposições coletivas em países como a Holanda, Singapura e Itália.
Para além das suas atividades artísticas, Tanama trabalha como professor no ISI Yogyakarta, onde partilha o seu conhecimento e experiência com artistas emergentes.
