  Ron Mills is a muralist, a painter and a printmaker living in Spain and the United States. His current series of large-scale pieces are gestures toward the unknowable, the infinitely intricate and immense dimensions of the universe, inner and outer that compose and surround us. The textured metallic pigments and paint surfaces shimmer as we move around them, creating inviting multi-layered veils that remind of our deepest desires to explore without naming. He achieves this effect by using acrylic paint over heavy gel that is branch-patted with metallic and other powdered pigments on the canvas. The eye is compelled to scan, to dwell in fascination, to embrace that which is greater than a single narrative or illusory image. He claims: “Beauty is to me found when the mind reaches its end point. When words fail. To engage this aspiration, as a painter, I court images that are not previously known or named, in passages that hint at luminous sources often behind ‘the thicket’ of confusion, unresolved flux and serendipity.”

  Ronald DeWitt Mills (mais tarde Mills-Pinyas) é pintor de estúdio, gravador e muralista.

  Ron vive atualmente com a sua esposa Maria Isabel Pinyas-Mills em Arenys de Mar, Espanha e em Amity, Oregon.

  Mills-Pinyas é licenciado em arte e filosofia de estúdio pela Universidade da Califórnia, Santa Bárbara em 1973 e mestre em Belas Artes pela Claremont Graduate University em Claremont, Califórnia, em arte e filosofia de estúdio em 1976.

  Como professor, Mills-Pinyas desenvolveu um currículo e lecionou vários cursos de desenho, pintura, gravura, teses, formas de arte multimédia, design e teoria da arte.

  As pinturas de Ron Mills revelam o que há de fraco na criação, frágil e delicado, num mundo poderoso que está vivo com explosões de cores e belas sub-realidades moleculares.

  Na obra de Mills podemos experienciar a desconstrução do que é e a ameaça ao que pensamos ser concreto e real. Não sabemos se estamos a testemunhar o início ou o fim, mas sabemos que estamos a testemunhar a essência da vida orgânica através da metamorfose molecular em toda a sua cor, textura e, por vezes, a sua terrível beleza.
