  The Belgian / Dutch painter Raoul Hynckes (1893-1973) initially painted mostly impressionistic harbors along the Belgian and Dutch coast and the IJsselmeer, like the river face. In 1914 he was conscripted to the front, but shocked by the violence of war, he deserted and fled to the neutral Netherlands where he continued to live the rest of his life. In 1924 he ended up in an artistic crisis. He broke with Impressionism and destroyed much of his work. In the thirties of the last century, he began painting still lifes in an extremely fine and meticulous style of painting. He is considered one of the Magic Realists and is represented in the collections of Museum MORE, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Arnhem Municipal e.v.a ..

  Raoul Hynckes (1893, Bruxelas – 1973, Blaricum, Holanda) foi um artista holandês de ascendência belga.

  Foi pintor, pastelista, pintor decorativo, ilustrador, gravador, designer gráfico, lenhador, designer de móveis. Ele estudou na Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts (Academia de Belas Artes) em Bruxelas de 1907 a 1912. Ele pintou principalmente em estilo impressionista (árvores mortas, naturezas mortas com caveiras, etc.). Desde a década de 1930 ele pertencia ao Magisch Realisme (Realismo Mágico).

  Ele pintou naturezas-mortas, paisagens urbanas, vistas de vilarejos, vistas do porto, figuras, retratos, auto-retratos. Também produziu cartazes, postais, ilustrações de livros infantis.

  Por volta de 1916, Hynckes projetou pôsteres para a Philips, também publicados como cartões postais.

  Desde 1923, é membro do Hollandsche Kunstenaars Kring (Círculo de Artistas Holandeses).

  Em 1973, ele foi premiado com o Gemeentelijke Cultuurprijs Hilversum.
  Ele escreveu um livro autobiográfico, intitulado De vrienden van middernacht, publicado em 1974 (De Arbeiderspers, Privé-Domein, número 24).

  Suas obras estão nas coleções do Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museu de Arte Moderna, Arnhem; Museu MAIS, Gorssel. Hynckes é um importante pintor holandês.
