About the artist
Jean Claude Champagnat (1923-1988) was a Paris master jeweller who worked for major fashion firms such as Christian Dior, Madame Gres and Hermes in the 1950s and 60s.
His work is characteristically sculptural, often using very three dimensional plant and animal forms. He was represented by 14 jewels at the 1961 International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery at Goldsmiths Hall, London
